  New opportunity for Hive Points
Posted by: Jimmy Hastings - 07-23-2016, 12:40 AM - Forum: Technical questions and suggestions - No Replies

Hey all!

We're migrating our Spite web interface to a new host.  This gives our intrepid bug hunters another opportunity to find problems.  I've migrated beta.spitelarp.com, and tried to make sure all functions and data are transferred from the old beta site, but if you notice something that didn't make it over, let us know.  If you find something before we make the transfer on web.spitelarp.com, you're eligible for the bug bounty.

Cheers,
Chief Technomancer Jimmy

  Dog Tags
Posted by: Chris Paul - 07-05-2016, 03:54 AM - Forum: Props and Costuming - Replies (1)

I'm looking for some cheap dog tags (roughly about 12) all with different names on them. The places I've looked at online sell them for around 7 bucks each tag. Anybody know of any more cost-effective routes I can find?

necessary requirements:
-name customization
-one other line for customization

preferred qualities:
-stamped/embossed tags
-metal

Thanks for reading, and I'm open to any other suggestions!

  Drom Eyes

Not sure if this is the place to put this (it is prop related so...?)

Drom eyes appear to be close to a human's from the pictures and such, is this true?

Thanks!

  Hive Points and XP Question
Posted by: Ian Paterson - 06-13-2016, 11:38 AM - Forum: Rules Questions - Replies (1)

To the powers in charge,

I remember there being a limit per game you can use XP bought through Hive Points.

Is this per game event attended? Games in general? Does it only apply to one character?

Example: Ive spent HP to get XP for character X for the two games I've attended. Now Im taking a break from character X to play character Y. Can I use HP to buy XP for each of the games Ive attended in the past to apply to character Y?

Thanks a bunch.

  Just Exim Things
Posted by: Michael Bates - 05-31-2016, 08:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

I am going to be starting an Exim character for the next game and I just wanted to see what kinds of Exims that other players have written. I know that all Exims are slightly different, as the procedure can vary depending on the "batch" and each person reacts in slightly different ways. I just want to get some general inspirations and maybe see what kinds of people my character went into the Eximus project with. So I am wondering things like:

At what "age" did your Exim start displaying side effects?
What were the initial side effects and how did your character notice them?
How much does the dementia/memory loss affect your Exim?
Why did your character undergo the Eximus treatment and did that affect what path they selected?
Does your character think about their shortened lifespan? How do they view it?

If you don't want to talk about these answers OOG, I totally understand. My character is coming in as a fairly new Exim, so he'll be interested in talking to more experienced veterans of the project at game. So we may get the chance to talk then as well.

  Mechanic questions
Posted by: Micheal Swem - 05-29-2016, 09:22 PM - Forum: Rules Questions - Replies (4)

So, I haven't yet played a game of spite, and am new to the game. I have some questions on how some abilities and props end up working.

So, to understand where I am coming from with these questions, I want to create a "Doctor" themed character, who can do as much harm as good with his medical know-how.

Looking at Finesse, which is Ranged, I could effectively simulate my desire to walk up to people and "inject them" with a point blank shot from a blaster, for this instance, I would use a small, single shot white blaster with a bottle attachment. (Personally, I wanted to use syringes)

This blaster would also act my Stimpack and Vita-injector, by swapping out bottles as is appropriate.

Would I still need firearms rank 1 to deliver finesse abilities if I call no damage? Would this be allowed, or am I pushing things?
And, lastly, would I have to purchase a firearm if I am not doing damage, and have nothing more then a glorified "needle" cannon Tongue.

  Web errors

I noticed the following errors on the website, most of them are pretty minor things like spelling and such, but I figured you guys should be aware of them, I will also post here if I find more errors either on the site or in one of the rulebooks:

-FAQ page typo: "Spite is not offiliated"

  Melee weapon questions
Posted by: Noctifer Duma - 05-05-2016, 12:26 PM - Forum: Props and Costuming - Replies (6)

Hihi!  So I haven't attended an event yet but one of your players has got me all excited... so if I'm still living in the area by September I'm really hoping I'll see all of you then!  As part of that excitement I've naturally started digging in, prepping, all that good stuff, and I'm a tad confused on weapons:

1) It mentions in a few places that the game wants 'modern' melee weapons, and in another place in this forum it talks about how katanas would not be considered modern / not be available.  I'm totally good with that but wanna make sure I'm on the right track before spending too much time building something wrong.  Are there any good examples of what would count as 'modern'?  Machetes are in use today of course, there are chainsword latex replicas out there for getting futuristic, sabers are used in modern military (eg. USMC) but mostly decoratively... that's all I can think of that isn't a replica of a classic design.  Is it basically just 'don't put a fancy or crossguard or hilt'?

2) I've only used boffer weapons before, when we talk 'latex' weapons here is it more like this:
How to build a foam / latex katana style sword  (Lite crafty foam over a fiberglass core w/ latex over it)
or
How to build an alternative to latex larp sword part 1  (Heavy foam over a fiberglass core w/ latex over it)
or
Something else entirely?

3) What kind of specifications / minimum safety requirements are there on melee weapons?  Minimal tip length, minimal padding on the pommel, can the hilt be all spikey looking (not actual metal of course, but potentially putting out an eye if an eye got near the hilt for some weird reason), can there be protrusions (like chainsword foam-miniblades), minimal sword length for daggers/claws, etc?

4) Are most vendor swords ok or are some of them offlimits safety-wise?  (Not that I can afford them from what I can see at the moment, $100+ for a weapon is a great incentive to just make my own, but still)

5) What is considered 'dual-wielding' here (based on the 'jack of all trades' skill limitation).  Is dual-wielding two equal-sized swords, sword and dagger, sword and pistol, two pistols, etc

Ok, that's my start questions on this topic, I'm sure I'll have more over time! Angel

Stabbing and Thrusting with Bladed Melee Weapons
Posted by: Zachary Herzog - 04-29-2016, 03:55 PM - Forum: Rules Questions - Replies (1)

Can stabby weapons (e.g. pointed swords) be used to stab and thrust, or are they only limited to slashing?

  Personal Plots vs DTAs
Posted by: John Pariury II - 04-27-2016, 12:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

The removal of Personal Plots was posted under the DTA policy as well. Was this meant just as a reminder, or are DTAs now also removed? My understanding was that Personal Plots meant long running things (possibly multi-event) while DTAs were just between-game-actions.
