Cybernetic Claws - Natalya Haner - 02-19-2015

Quote:Cyborg Claws: Cyborg claws are represented by futuristic looking padded latex claw weapons.
Claws may have a total length of no less than 2 feet and no greater than 3 feet.
Cyborg claws must be made of cored foam and latex
Any area that may come in contact with another player must be padded.
Claws should appear attached in some way.

While I understand how cyber-claws are supposed to look, and I totally get what the goal here is (don't look like Drom claws), I'm not sure where to find such a latex weapon to meet the requirements.

The closest I could find is this: http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-2388-archangel-piston-powered-cleaver-latex.aspx

Nevermind the price tag for two of them, it looks like these are being discontinued.

I would like to propose that if the requirement is cored foam and latex, any metal-looking latex dagger should be acceptable. If the concern is someone mistakenly snagging the dagger for use, then perhaps something can attached to the dagger to indicate it is cyber, like a tag that says CYBER on it or something. OR cyber-claws could be the same construction of a Drom claw, except gray or silver fabric is used instead of black.

Also regarding "Claws should appear attached in some way", does this mean that that claws are not retractable and I have to hold the weapon in my hand at all times?

Thanks in advance!

Here's one idea, as a starting point: 40K Lightning Claw.

RE: Cybernetic Claws - Mr. F - 02-19-2015

That may look cool, but thats a cosplay prop. You cant do combat with that.

Ergo, as a starting point. Smile

So you can do the standard arm blades by attaching swords to the undersides of your arms.

When we originally stated that cyborg claws would be standard boffers with a color requirement we got some push back from people wanting to create their own cool latex claws. I think the change in the rule was to allow people to use standard boffers or create their own latex claws. Is that correct Ron?

RE: Cybernetic Claws - Ron Leota - 02-20-2015

Dromanae claws are standard cloth boffers. PC claws are latex weapons.

We came to this decision for a number of reasons:

1. Aesthetics
2. PCs already have a way to wield melee weapons, claws is just a cool costuming choice supported by the rules.
3. It was a big player complaint that they were all going to be cloth boffers.
4. Having Drom claws different allows us to differentiate attacks better, even in the dark. Boffers and latex weapons look strikingly different.

I totally agree with the aesthetic and making them different than Drom claws. I truly get it.

However, I am having a problem with where to acquire such a specific latex weapon. I am one who buys online, so when I find that there is only one weapon that meets the requirements and its a $75 soon-to-be-discontinued sword that is steampunk, it starts reaching into the realm of a very difficult requirement to meet.

That being said, could I use one my katana that meet the length requirement? How much of the weapon is supposed to be cyberpunked?

On the attaching of the weapon, I'm not really understanding how its supposed to be attached to my arm because 3 feet is the length of my whole arm and I don't imagine its supposed to be splint Tongue

I'm a visual aid person... if you have a pic or can show me at the playtest that would be great!

Ron, are you talking about...

A claw like weapon, sheathed on the arm... but then held in the hand normally to fight?

OR

A claw like weapon, affixed to the arm... and you fight with it like that (ie, Wolverine style)?

Natalya, I make Latex weapons on commission... depending on what you want, I might be able to help you.

Ron, for my question... see attached picture Smile

Examples:
A) Fixed to bracer
B) Attached, but fought with normal methods
