Camp Kirby Site Rules
#1
Information
  • Major Stuff
  • Camp Kirby not only provides dishes and cookware, but they require us to use their dishes and cookware. If you've got a favorite plate or crockpot that you just have to use, that's fine, but we're not allowed to use disposable plates/cups/silverware.
  • We're also required to follow the recycling rules while on site. This probably isn't any different than what you're used to at other sites, but plan on recycling all cardboard, glass, aluminum, tin, and plastic #1.

  • There is limited parking near camp, so carpool if you can. Expect to be double or triple parked in so that we can conserve space and not have vehicles in our play space. We'll show you where parking is OK. Aside from that, stay on the roads.
  • Don't trust Google to give you directions for the last half mile or so. The last section (in red, see the picture) isn't public road that we should be using; go around.

  • Everyone helps clean up. Not just your own stuff, but the whole site. Every building should have posted cleanup instructions, but if it doesn't then expect to at least get all of your stuff out, sweep it, remove any garbage to the dumpster, and if you have one, clean the kitchen/bathroom. It's up to your group how you decide who cleans what, but every cabin is also responsible for sending at least one person to help clean the Mess Hall or shared bathroom. NPCs are expected to help clean up the Hive. Anyone standing and gabbing at the end of game rather than helping is offering to volunteer to be put on a task that is shorthanded.
  • There's a fancy dishwashing room in the Mess Hall. You're responsible for your own dishes: eating, serving, and cooking. Clean up immediately after you're done and don't leave the dishes for later; someone else needs that pan/big spoon/whatever right now. There are directions in there on how things work. Make sure that there's no food particles on anything before putting them in the machine. Make sure that your prep area is clean too. IF YOU TOUCH THE GRILL, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING IT. CLEANING IT SUCKS.

  • Please police ammo and packets throughout game. Don't just pick up enough darts to reload yourself and stop; at least help gather the darts together so that NPCs can respawn or move to other parts of the camp quickly.
  • Nitpicky stuff:
  • Alcoholic beverages, non-prescription drugs or controlled substances or weapons are not allowed on camp property. I know that there are one or two games in our area where it's not uncommon for people to drink/smoke off site and show up buzzed, but we're not one of them.
  • Smoking isn't allowed on site. When I asked about smoking/vaping/other tobacco, this is what I got: "If you must smoke, go up the hill to the road and walk down the road while smoking. Be sure to collect your stubs and put them in the garbage. The smoke detectors must not be tampered with."
  • We probably won't have a need to light any fires, but they need to be in firepits or fireplaces. If you light it, you're stuck with it unless someone else tells you that they're taking responsibility for it.
  • Propane stoves are OK, just not in buildings or on porches.
  • Don't jam people into buildings. If you've got a big group, work with us to make sure you have a building that will actually fit you and not blast past the max occupancy.
  • If you're not using a building, make sure the heat/lights are off.
  • We can't alter any buildings/structures/equipment/etc, so don't tip over that thing and use it as a baracade. Similarly, don't go bashing down doors or doing anything that might otherwise cause damage.
  • Stay off of the climbing wall. You'll see it when you drive in, but it's not nearby where we'll be so it probably won't even tempt you, but stay away from it anyways.
  • We can't swim or use any of the boats or archery equipment. This stuff should all be locked up, but if you end up in a building full of boats or boating gear somehow, you shouldn't be in there. It's the Sound, so it'll be cold anyways, but we didn't go through the process that we need to in order to have people in the water, so don't.

Do they make no distinctiion between vaping and smoking? Do they understand the difference?

No they do not make a distinction, unfortunately. I don't know if they know the difference, however, we have to follow their policy and we are just establishing a relationship with this site and don't want to make waves. We are the first LARP to use Kirby and we want to be ambassadors for our community. So if they say no vaping, we won't question it. It bums me out too on a personal level.

I've seen some camp rules, but DAMN these are... wow. Its really the dishes part that gets me and leads to some questions...

1) If we washed and kept the shot glasses that Kirk bought, can we use them?
2) I was going to bring my own personalized coffee mug, is this allowed?
3) Can I bring a bread machine?
4) Can I bring frozen meals that come on their own plate?
5) Is there going to be someone at the camp watching over our every move?

Questions 4 and 5 are rhetorical jokes that don't require an answer. Tongue

1. Yes, the rule is in place to prevent additional waste from disposable dishware.
2. Go ahead.
3. Sure.
4. No, absolutely not and I am mad at you for asking. Tongue

It's not explicitly stated, but am I correct that we should not expect to be allowed use road flares or emergency smoke canisters?

Are we likely to be up in the forest area much, and is the camp boundary marked at all in the woods?
